Not a bad idea to compare these two presidents.
Roosevelt inherited the Great Depression from Republican Herbert Hoover. Hoover said in his 1927 nomination acceptance speech, “We in American today are nearer to the final triumph over poverty than ever before in the history of any land. The poorhouse is vanishing from among us.”
The economy fell from $87 billion in gross domestic product in 1930 to less than half, $42 billion in 1932. Yet, in 1931, Hoover said, “The economy is fundamentally sound!”
That phrase still echoes in the Bush stained White House. Neither Bush nor Hoover had a grip on reality.
So before we can compare Roosevelt to Obama, maybe we should compare Republican economic success under Hoover and Bush.
