He stands on the edge of victory in the 6th Congressional District. He's so close that Governor Nathan Deal signed into law provisions for students to carry guns to school.
That's right. I could return to college and carry any kind of gun to class. No teacher could stop me. No security or police. I could sleep in my class while using 'it for a pillow.'
I could load my car with as many guns as I wanted. All loaded. And, it someone saw my guns as I got out my book bag, no one would have a legal right to even ask me, do you have a concealed gun permit.
Stupid law. It would allow me to carry an arsenal, drive up to a student meeting, and open fire. All in the name of
ELECTING KAREN HANDEL.
Don't think so? I do. Handel is a college drop out type with only a high school diploma whose ambition runs as far as being President of the United States?
Don't think Handel could become President? Elect her to Congress. Get her the position as Speaker of the House, then she won't need to be elected.
'Guns for Karen,' the latest law passed during an election cycle to rally Republicans to the polls.

Governor Nathan Deal forces prayer on private citizens
I should have more courage. Maybe I have too much common sense.
Why in Hell's finest tradition are Georgia government organizations forcing me to pray?
No one has a right to tell me, "You will pray. You will pray now. You will pray in this manner."
No one has that power. Well, except for Nathan Deal's government in the form of schools, football games, public meetings, and courthouses.
Let's blame it on the Pilgrims or at least the little band later named the Pilgrims. Of 109 passengers on the Mayflower, only 50 could be called religious. Four were children more or less kidnapped from their parents as punishment for adultery. How loving a church to take in illegitimate children, hide them from their natural parents, transport them 5,000 across an ocean, and force the children to pray. To a specific pastor. To a specific dogma.
When I see a version of the 10 Commandments on public land, that is Nathan Deal telling me, "Read these religious laws and Obey."
When I'm at a Hall County Board of Commissioners' Meeting and it is announced that someone will lead us in prayer, it means you will pray in the name of Nathan Deal's government. Now. In this manner. In front of the cameras.
The next time Nathan Deal says, You will pray, I'll think of four children stolen from their natural parents and forced into religious dogma in a strange new world.
That is, until I have enough courage to refuse Nathan Deal.

Felon shoots family. Had a right to a gun. Are gun rights more important than voting rights in Georgia?. Two similar issues. One as deadly as the other.

Convicted felon on charges unrelated to having killed his son in a hunting accident years ago, shoots and kills his daughter and her six kids.
Under Florida law, this convicted felon still had a right to a gun. Same as in Georgia.
Yes, convicted felons have a right to own a gun or guns. Just sign some paperwork. Get your gun. Even if you have killed in the past.

Georgia does spend millions trying to stop voter fraud. So does Georgia restore voting rights to felons? They can. Someone needs to see how many times killers get to vote.

From the Republican candidate for Congress, "The fact that an organization led by a well-known Nunn supporter would attempt to illegally register voters is unacceptable."

The State Board of Pardons and Paroles restored firearms rights for more than 1,400 felons between 2008 and 2013, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Sunday.
The board restored gun rights for 666 people last year, which is 10 times the number of pardons that restored firearms rights six years ago.
The overall number includes 358 felons who were convicted of violent crimes, 166 who were convicted of drug crimes and 32 who killed another person.

The letter from Rick Frommer
In a recent letter to the editor, the writer alleges a 1960's conspiracy to stop profitable recycling of nuclear waste. According to the authror, the massive conspiracy stopped civil rights legislation, defeated General Westmoreland in an election, and preserved corruption in the Democratic Party.
I remember the Sixties. So do many other people. It would do well to remember the facts in that decade.
Young President John F. Kennedy proposed civil rights legislation in 1963. The 1964 Civil Rights Act came to a Congressional vote and was signed by President Lyndon Johnson on July 2, 1964, just months after Kennedy's assassination in Dallas, Texas. Among the nay votes were Democrats and Republicans with every Southern Republican voting against the new law. Southern Republican refers to the Congressman from the 11 states which constituted the Confederate slave states a hundred years earlier. In the Senate, 69% of Democrats voted for the bill.
Johnson would sign the 1968 Civil Right Act before leaving the White House. Hardly a Democratic conspiracy to stop civil rights legislation.
General Westmoreland didn't retire from the military until 1972. His military service and career were stained by US involvement in Vietnam and his several decisions to suppress military reports. Suppressing information hit a low point in 1968 when the Calley massacre cover-up lasted 13 months. Westmoreland left Vietnam after the horrific losses of the 1968 Tet Offensive. His unsuccessful political campaign was in 1974 not in the Sixties.
No President has been as corrupt as Republican President Richard Nixon who was elected in 1968. Nixon used what is know as the Southern strategy in national politics. The strategy was to appeal to the white Southern racist called "Negrophobe whites" by Nixon's people.
As to profitable recycling of radioactive waste in the 1960's? Not possible. Not possible today. Although Governor Deal and others like the Heritage Foundation have made false reports of successful efforts in the UK and France. The UK and France are actively seeking underground disposal options and not any mythical recycling program.
The UK offers 'bribes' to communities to consider storage of its 260,000 cubic meters of radioactive waste.
France had 1.32 million cubic meters of nuclear waste in 2010, a 13% increase over 2009.
People have been trying to explain how the world works since we first walked upright. Lying about the past isn't new. Lying about nuclear waste is just tool of Republicans.

It courses through the Constitution and is a constant in President Obama’s most stirring addresses. It’s what we might call the More Information Hypothesis: the belief that many of our most bitter political battles are mere misunderstandings. The cause of these misunderstandings? Too little information — be it about climate change, or taxes, or Iraq, or the budget deficit. If only the citizenry were more informed, the thinking goes, then there wouldn’t be all this fighting.
