A very brave woman was killed by an Islamic extremist in Gujranwala, Pakistan.
Zilla Huma Usman, the minister for social welfare in Punjab province and an ally of President General Pervez Musharraf was shot once and died later in a Lahore hospital.
She was 35. She was elected in 2002 and fought for the rights of women in a predominately Muslim nation. Her killer said she violated Islamic Law by being in politics and by not dressing properly in public. The gunman is not alleged to be the member of any political group. In 2002, the gunman was investigated for the murder and mutilation of four prostitutes. He was released for lack of evidence.

Pakistan helped train extremists like bin Laden to fight the Soviets in the 1980's. Bin Laden received medical help directly from Musharraf and is alleged to be hiding within Pakistan. Pakistan has both nuclear weapons and long range missiles. Pakistan also traded nuclear technology to North Korea in exchange for improved missile technology.
The only things preventing a US invasion would be Pakistan's status as an ally to the US and the lack of oil reserves.
